Jack Stanton (Pro Vision) now has yellow. But teenager Adam Ward put in a great breakaway ride at the Tour of the North today. And Lindsay Watson and Darnell Moore are closer to the race lead this evening with just one last stage to come (Photo: Toby Watson)
An eventual finale to stage 3 of the Tour of the North this afternoon saw the yellow jersey change hands.
And best placed Irish riders overall Darnell Moore and Lindsay Watson are closer to the race lead ahead of the final day.
The Caldwell Cycles and PowerHouse Sport riders is just nine and twenty seconds respectively down on new race leader Jack Stanton (Pro Vision).
However, stage 1 winner and the man who started the day in yellow today, Marcus Burnett (Spirit Tifosi), is now 2nd overall. He’s just four seconds off the lead.
Today junior rider Adam Ward (PowerHouse Sport) rode very well on the afternoon stage after the morning TT.
On the Roguery circuit, with five 15-mile laps to be completed, the classy teenager took flight with two UK riders.
With Jordan Peacock and Ed Clemens of Spirit Tifosi, Ward looked very comfortable out front despite his rivals being more used to the British pro scene.

Indeed Ward took the climbers’ prime on the Roguery climb on lap 1, from Clemens and Calvin Moore (Caldwell Cycles).
Ward collected maximum points again next time around; from Peacock and Clemens. And he was 2nd on the third passage of the climb; Peacock taking it.
But as the race moved onto the last lap the fight for the general classification behind the leading trio saw their advantage wiped out.
They were recaptured and last time up the climb the racing would split and five men would pull clear.
In that lead group were the Caldwell Cycles duo of Darnell Moore and Craig McAuley. Lindsay Watson (PowerHouse Sport) was also present.
Completing the escape were the British riders Rupert Graham (Spirit Tifosi) and Jack Stanton (Pro Vision).
They would survive to win the day; with Graham claiming the stage from Watson and Stanton.
Some 20 seconds would elapse before the next group finished; comprised of 21 men including yellow jersey Burnett. It meant he just about lost his race lead.
And while Moore and Watson were 25 and 36 seconds off yellow after this morning’s TT, they are no 9 seconds and 20 seconds down respectively with just one stage remaining.
