Top 10s for Irish team at UCI Nations Cup in Adelaide

The Irish track riders have scored a number of top 10 results at the UCI Nations Cup in Adelaide, Australia, where the key focus for the national team has been the team pursuit.

Currently in 9th place in the world rankings, and needing a top 10 to quality for the Paris Olympics, the Irish women were 7th in qualifying and then went on to meet the United States in 'Round 1'.

Having recorded a time of 4:23.118 in qualifying, the team - Alice Sharpe, Kelly Murphy, Mia Griffin and Lara Gillespie - went faster in 'Round 1' with 4:20.545. The US team clocked a time of 4:17.101.

The Irish did not advance to the medal ride-offs and ended the event in 8th place. New Zealand beat Great Britain in the gold medal race - 4:10.229 Vs 4:10.578. Australia A beat Canada in the bronze medal ride; 4:14.565 Vs 4:15.732.

In the elimination race, Erin Grace Creighton - the 19-year-old now cutting her teeth in senior international racing - rode the elimination race on Friday and placed 16th of the 21-rider field.

The event was won by Ally Wollaston (New Zealand) from Jennifer Valente (USA) and Jessica Roberts (Great Britain).

Today, Saturday, Mia Griffin and Alice Sharpe, teamed up to ride the madison, taking 10th place. The race was won by Great Britain from Australia and the United States.
