After claiming a big win at the Cycling Ireland National Road Series in Cong, Co Mayo, two weeks ago, Tom Regan was again victorious on Mayo roads last night. The Seven Springs CC rider was best in the sprint from a nine-rider breakaway that decided the John Holian Cup, promoted by Western Lakes CC, in Cross.
Junior rider Niall McLoughlin (Westport Covey), who is coming back after a period of illness, took 2nd place while Dave Walsh of Castlebar CC rounded out the podium.
The
race was held on a circuit of just over 10km, with the breakaway going clear on
the first of 5½ laps. In that group with Regan, McLoughlin and Walsh was Anthony
Hammond of Castlebar CC, Jarlath Hassett of Burren CC as well as two Spanish
riders and one French rider in Ireland to compete in the Rás.
In the A4 race, Kealan Ryan (Castlebar CC) won the sprint from the breakaway to take victory with Greg Baxter (Westport Covey Wheelers) 2nd and John Guilfoyle (Annagh Wheelers) rounding out the podium.
