Tim O'Regan cements emergence on cyclocross scene with seaside win in Portmarnock

A noted road rider who has been emerging in cyclocross over the past couple of winters, Tim O’Regan today emerged victorious at the new Crossmarnock fixture in Portmarnock, north Dublin.

The DID Dunboyne man came in at the head of affairs from two men who have proven among the strongest on the scene in recent seasons; Sean O’Tuathail of Bray Wheelers filling the runner-up position and Evan Ryan of Team WORC rounding out the podium.

O’Tuathail had a fantastic cyclocross season last year and has consolidated that further since the current campaign began in the past couple of months. And third-placed Ryan has very often proven the only rider capable of giving team mate Robin Seymour a run for his money in the Fixx Coffeehouse Supercross Series.

Their pedigrees make today’s victory by O’Regan a very good one, and he had plenty of time to savour taking his first off road win to add to his road triumphs down the years.

While conditions were mild for December, there was still a nip in the air and with the breeze whipping in from the sea just a stone’s throw from the course, the riders faced a tough challenge today.

O’Regan added to the difficulty of the event by crashing early on, but clearly recovered very well from that mishap and stayed composed under the pressure it brought.

Jason Henry (U/A) took the vets’ prize with Patrick Michel of Team WORC first junior home. He also took fourth in the A race, a very promising result for the teenager.

Diarmuid Clancy (www.thinkbike.ie) took the B race from Colm Keane (IMBRC), the winner’s team mate Gary Donohue claiming third spot.

National champion Fran Meehan (Aquablue) was first woman home from Lisa Millar (Dromara CC).Cian May (Lucan CC) was first youth rider. See results and photos below.
