An Olympic silver medallist and member of Team GB’s World Championship-winning team pursuit line-up, Wendy Houvenhagel will be in Dublin in a fortnight for a Cycling Ireland women’s training camp.
Houvenhagel, a three-time gold medallist at the Worlds, will appear alongside Paddy Doran, Cycling Ireland’s head of coaching and development.
The day is aimed at helping all female riders to pick up tips that can improve their performance irrespective of their current level.
The training day will include a morning skills session on Corkagh Park, Dublin, followed by an afternoon talk and Q&A with Houvenaghel in the Green Isle Hotel nearby.
She will be sharing some of the knowledge she gained over her years of international racing, during which she won three world titles, four world championship silvers and an Olympic silver in the individual pursuit four years ago in Beijing.
The day will be an invaluable opportunity for Irish female riders to listen to a truly world class athlete who has been an integral part of the Team GB set-up, probably the most successful and carefully prepared national squad of all time.
Currently living in Wales, Houvenaghel is native of Upperlands, Co Derry. At the age of 38 years, she is Northern Ireland’s most successful racing cyclist to date and still competes at the highest levels on the road and on the track.
