Three medals for Ireland at Track Cycling Challenge, Switzerland

Heavy is the head that wears the cowboy hat: Neah Evans of Great Britain tops the scratch race podium in Switzerland from Ireland's Emily Kay and Mia Griffin

Irish riders have taken three medals at the Track Cycling Challenge in Grenchen, Switzerland.

In the scratch race, Olympian Emily Kay and U23 Europeans bronze medalist Mia Griffin took silver and bronze, behind winner Neah Evans of Great Britain.

Fellow Irish riders Lydia Boylan and Alice Sharpe were also riding the scratch race; placing 6th and 8th in the 24-rider international field.

Kay also took a bronze medal in the points race when she was one of seven riders to gain a lap. She also won the fifth sprint and took points in three other sprints. That left her with a final tally of 31 points, taking the final spot on the podium.

British rider Neah Evans took victory on 40 points - winning three of the sprints and gaining a lap - while Lena Mettraux of Switzerland took silver, on 33 points.

Ireland's Boylan placed 10th, on six points, while Sharpe finished in 11th place, on five points, in the 23-rider field. Both Sharpe and Boylan also won sprints during the 20km, eight-sprint, race.

In the elimination race, Briton Evans was again victorious - one of four gold medals during yesterday's day of racing - with Ireland's Kay in 7th. Sharpe, Griffin and Boylan placed 10th, 11th and 12th.

In the Madison, Great Britain's Evans and Maddie Leech took victory, with Sharpe and Kay joining forces for 4th while Boylan and Griffin were 5th.

Meanwhile, British rider Kyle Gordon - riding for Irish team Spellman Dublin Port at present - won the men's individual pursuit in a time of 4:13.667.
