Emma Smith of Navan Road Club has taken another victory at the Women's Cycling League in Corkagh Park, Dublin. The Co Meath teenager, who also won two weeks ago, was best again in a group sprint after attacks on the night failed to force a breakaway.
Gabriele Glodenyte of UCD Cycling Club was 2nd while Orla Walsh of Torelli-Assure-Cayman Islands-Scimitar rounded out the podium in the main event on the night.
Walsh and Glodenyte as well as Jennifer Neenan (Sundrive Track Team) and Jennifer Bates (Torelli-Assure-Cayman Islands-Scimitar) were to the fore in animating the race.
Early in the contest Bates attacked the scratch group and got across to the limit riders on her own. While she went through the group, bringing a couple of others with her, that breakaway effort was neutralised by the bunch behind.
From that point, with the race all together, attacks came from team mates Walsh and Bates as well as Glodenyte and Neenan. However, with about three laps to go all the attackers had been reabsorbed. Coming to the finish, Aine Kelly of Orwell Wheelers went early but it was Smith who came through for victory.
