As expected, Team Ireland took the stage three Team Time Trial of the An Post Rás na mBan yesterday in Barefield, Co Clare.

The Irish national team, who grabbed the stage win with Mel Spath and overall lead with Olivia Dillon on Thursday, were favourites to win yesterday’s test.

They covered the 13.8 kilometre course in a time of 18 minutes exactly, delivering a well choreographed display of power.

The Irish women were 32 seconds faster than the DID Electrical Racing Team. A second place for DID meant Amy Brice would wear the county jersey at the start of stage 4, the circuit race held last evening.

The third fastest team was Team Luxembourg at 42 seconds. Race leader Olivia Dillon was thrilled with her team performance.

“It feels phenomenal,” she told stickybottle after the test early in the day yesterday.

“We had been targeted the win in this stage, given the riders on the team. But there are a lot of strong teams here so we knew we really needed to put in a very good performance.”

“I’m sure with Gillian (McDarby, team manager) knowing there was a team time trial in the race, she would have had that in mind when she selected the team because this was always going to be key in the general classification. We thrilled to have pulled this off.”
