Team GB 1-2 in Rás mBan TT, as Munster's Linda Kelly announces her arrival

The Great Britain team took a 1-2 in today’s stage 4 TT at Rás
na mBan, with gaps now emerging at the top of the general classification for
the first time.

One of Irish cycling’s newcomers, Linda Kelly of Cycling
Munster, put in a fantastic ride today to take 5th on the stage. She
has announced her arrival with that result, even if she had already begun to
pop up in race results in recent months.

Going into today’s TT stage Abi Smith of Great Britain held the leader’s jersey after she won yesterday atop The Cut and was 2nd on both stages 1 and 2.

However, she was equal on time with three other riders, including her team mate Anna Shackley, Alice Sharpe of Team Ireland and stage 2 winner Loes Adegeest (Jan van Arckel).

The riders faced an uphill 6.4km TT from Tullaroan to Ballybay early on Saturday, ahead of this evening’s criterium in Kilkenny, and that race against the watch was won by Shackley in a time of 13:20.

She was five seconds up on her team mate, Smith, with Team Ireland’s Kelly Murphy rounding out the podium, some 34 seconds down on the winner.

Then came stage 2 winner, Adegeest from the Netherlands, at
44 seconds, with Linda Kelly next; 5th in an international field and
54 seconds down on stage winner Shackley.

Team Ireland’s Sharpe was next, in 6th place at 57 seconds, before her team mate this week, Imogen Cotter, filled 7th place at 1:07 and Nicole Coates (Torelli-Assure-Cayman Islands-Scimitar) on the same time in 8th.

The stage result now means the top
four on GC are separated by time gaps for the first time since this race began
on Wednesday.

Shackley has taken the leader’s jersey from her team mate
Smith, whom she now leads by five seconds, with Adegeest 3rd at 44
seconds.

Ireland’s Sharpe is still right up there, in 4th
place at 57 seconds with team mate Kelly Murphy 5tj at 1:15.
