Walsh and Meehan (far left) on the World Cup podium in Spain yesterday, Friday
The Irish female tandem duo of Catherine Walsh and Fran Meehan have repeated their silver medal performance from the World Cup meeting in Rome two weeks ago, taking another silver medal at the UCI Paracycling World Cup TT in Segovia yesterday, Friday.
Ireland’s second female tandem pairing of Katie-George Dunlevy and pilot Sandra Fitzgerald claimed 7th place in the same race in Spain.
James Brown and pilot Damien Shaw secured Ireland’s best ever male tandem World Cup finish taking 4th place in their category while Andrew Fitzgerald and pilot Con Collis finished in 15th place.
Current TT World Champions Mark Rohan and Colin Lynch were a little disappointed with their 4th and 5th places respectively in the H1 and C2 categories.
“It just goes to show how far Irish Paracycling has come that athletes are not satisfied with 4th and 5th place finishes,” said team manager Denis Toomey.
Cathal Miller was 11th in the C5 TT, while Enda Smyth was one place behind in 12th place in the C3 Category.
The road racing takes place today and tomorrow, with the tandem and handcycles racing today and the solo bikes racing tomorrow.
