Swinand and Kennedy take gold, silver at UCI World Masters Champs

Greg Swinand after his gold medal-winning ride today at the UCI Masters World Championships in Italy

Irish riders Greg Swinand (Dan Morrissey-Pactimo) and Paul Kennedy (Burren CC) have win gold and silver in the TTs at the UCI Masters World Championships in Trento, Italy, today.

Swinand's winning ride in the 55-59 years ago group is the fourth time he has won a world Masters title against the clock. Kennedy's performance today secured for him his first medal at a worlds.

Swinand, a multiple Irish masters champion in the TT and road race, won the 19.6km test today in a time of 25:54. That was six seconds up on silver medal winner Michael Schaefer (Germany) with Germany's Frank Erk 3rd at 24 seconds.

In the 44-44 years category France's Laurent Derain claimed the gold medal in a time of 24:56. That was 25 seconds faster than Ireland's Kennedy, the Masters 40 Irish champion, with Finland's Johan Nordlund taking bronze at 33 seconds.
