Cycling Ireland has opened the process of selecting riders for the Dublin round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup in three weeks, setting out detailed criteria that must be met to secure places on the start line.
While the U23 and junior riders will be selected to ride on a national team, wearing Team Ireland kit, it may bot be the same for the seniors and the national governing body said all available slots may not be taken up.
Under the expression of interest process now opened by Cycling Ireland, riders can apply to represent Ireland in the junior, U23 and elite races; male and female for all three categories.
The selection panel can pick riders as part of a Team Ireland selection or to rider as independent, or club, riders on the day. The expressions of interest process, which you can find out more about at this link, closes next Monday, November 11th, at 8pm.
Cycling Ireland has also set out the following assurances and criteria.
- Every rider submitting an EOI will be considered on demonstrated on merit solely
- Selections will be made by the Cycling Ireland Offroad Commission in consultation with Cycling Ireland High Performance Unit (HPU)
- No rider will gain automatic selection irrespective of palmares or results T
- he panel will select based on verifiable information submitted
- Counting events for establishing performance level are Dublin World Cup 2023, National Championships 2023-24, European and World Championships 2023-24 and all races in current 2024-25 domestic and international season
- Riders are wholly responsible to include all relevant information in their EOI in the agreed format for submission: not included = not considered
- Junior and Under 23 riders will be selected as a national squad and will race in Ireland kit as per UCI regulation requirement
- Senior riders may be selected as independent entrants should the panel deem inadequate depth in performance standard to merit composing national elite squads
Cycling Ireland added there was "no obligation to fill all slots allocated to Ireland by the event organiser and the UCI". Instead, filling all slots was "at the discretion of the panel based on performance level of applicants".
