Adam Stenson has continued his late start to the season in some very good form by storming in at the head of affairs on the opening stage of Rás Dhun na nGall last evening.

The NRPT-Magnet.ie man, riding for Bikeworx this weekend, won the bunch sprint that settled the contest by some considerable margin.

A couple of lengths behind was another young rider with a very good kick, Jake Gray - an NRPT-Magnet.ie rider too but competing for Errigal CC this weekend.

Marc Heaney from Cycling Ulster completed a podium on the stage of real quality; all of them among the very best U18 riders in the country.

The opening stage was marred by a couple of crashes, with a number of riders taken to hospital after a crash about 6 miles into the 33 mile stage that started and finished into Ardara.

Other riders in the field also had their way blocked by that crash early in the stage, with another spill at the very end just as the finishing sprint was ramping up.

Today's stages include a 2.4 mile hilly TT in the morning and an afternoon road race before the event is completed on Sunday with another road stage that includes the feared summit finish at Glengesh.
