The first round of the new Cyclocross National Series is set to unfold in Westport, Co Mayo, tomorrow when over 100 riders will compete in Westport Country Lodge Hotel, Co Mayo.
This opening round is the first of four - one in each of the four provinces - and the new series is a first for cyclocross, joined the domestic calendar alongside the Cycling Ireland National Road Series and the National TT Series, which was new this year.
Tomorrow's racing will take place on 2.5km circuit featuring a variety of terrain - from grass to gravel - with steep uphill and downhill sections.
Westport Cycling Club is promoting the event and its chairperson, Anthony Murray, said the club was really looking forward to the event.
“We have an exciting flowing course for all participants to enjoy on the grounds of Westport Country Lodge. With the help of our club volunteers and the support of Connacht Cycling, we hope to deliver a race to remember.”

The opening round will be followed by 'Round 2' in Drombane, Thurles, Co Tipperary, tomorrow week, November 26th. It will be followed by 'Round 3' in Jenkinstown, Co Louth, on December 28th, with the series concluding in Portadown on the 7th of January.
Points will be allocated on riders’ position in each round, and the National Series will count towards the gridding for the National Championships, along with the results from the provincial cyclocross championships.
