Following the disappointment of the Gorey Three Day being cancelled for this year due to low entries, VC Glendale have unfortunately been forced to cancel their senior races due to take place this weekend.
The senior events at the Jimmy Watson and Debbie Barclay Memorials - at the Dundrod Circuit overlooking Belfast - were planned for Sunday, for C2 and C3 riders, but both are now off due to low entries.
However, it is important to note the youth races are going ahead on the day as planned and the promoting club said good numbers have entered those events. The youth races have run for the last three years and senior events were added to the fixture for the first time this season.
The fact those senior events are off is a blow, especially to VC Glendale, who have put a huge effort in to developing domestic cycling for many years.
"Although we have been advertising it for several weeks and also put out an appeal over the weekend across the cycling community to gather more entries, we still have not reached enough to make the C2 and C3 races viable," VC Glendale chairman Frank Campbell said.
"Although we have an excellent course, set-up and large prize fund we have made the very much regrettable decision to cancel the senior races this Sunday. We would like to thank all those who did enter and who have tried so hard over the past few weeks to gain support, refunds will be issued asap.
"The good news is that our youth races will go ahead on Sunday morning as planned with healthy numbers racing. We are passionate about the development of our sport through our Academy and with the help of our race sponsor Big L’s competitions a great day’s racing will take place."
