Following on from her impressive performances in the recent ‘Kerry Group Rás Mumhan’, Siobhán Horgan (Team GSD Gestion) has ridden strongly in the UCI 1.2 Halle-Buizingen in Belgium.

The 121km event was won by the Australian Chloe Hosking(Team Specialized-Lululemon) in a bunch sprint.

Many of the top women’s trade teams including Rabobank, SC Michaela Fanini and Lotto-Belisol were taking part, in addition to national teams from France, Belgium, USA and Australia.

A breakaway of nine riders was clear heading into the final kilometres but due to the work of Hosking’s team they were brought back, resulting in a bunch finish. Horgan came in at the back of the bunch for 36th place.

It was evidence of her current form that only 44 of the 182 starters finished the race, and she finished ahead of some of the biggest names in the sport. Her search for valuable UCI points continues later this week, when she lines up in the Women’s World Cup race, La Flèche Wallonne Féminine.

Ireland’s Michelle Geoghegan (Wielerclub Steeds Vooraan V.Z.W.) was also due to take part but did not appear amongst the finishers.
