Robin Seymour has emerged victorious in the battle of Rathfarnham that decided the first cyclocross race to be run off during the summer for many years.

The Team WORC man had 39 seconds to spare over Glenn Kinning (Kinning Cycles), with Zippy Doyle of VeloRevolution a further 11 seconds back rounding out the podium.

Seymour and Doyle began quickest on a course that went through the centre of the south Dublin village and saw a large crowd turn out to cheer on the riders.

They blasted around the opening lap of eight on the same time of 4:41, putting them six seconds ahead of Kinning and just one second ahead of Maciej Staroniewicz (EPIC MTB Expert Cycles), who found himself in third place after that opening circuit.

Kinning put himself right back into contention on the second lap, closing up on the two leaders to go level with Doyle, just one second behind leader Seymour as Staroniewicz slipped out of the podium positions.

And while the three leaders went around the third lap within one second of each other, Seymour made his move on lap four; clocking a time of 4:45, some 24 seconds quicker than Kinning and 11 seconds faster than Doyle.

On the fifth lap, Seymour built his lead – by two seconds on Kinning and 12 on Doyle – and on lap six he put another 10 and 12 seconds respectively into the duo.

From there the lone leader pressed on relentlessly, putting four more seconds into Kinning and 13 into Doyle on the penultimate circuit.

By the last lap, Seymour had an unassailable lead barring incident, giving him the opportunity to ease of slightly and enjoy his win.
