Seymour completes clean sweep in Raheny to take ‘Fixx Supercross Series’

National Cyclocross Champion, Robin Seymour has completed a clean sweep in every round of the 2012 Fixx Coffeehouse Supercross Series, taking the final event in Raheny, Dublin, today by a massive margin.

The Team WORC rider may have lost ground on the opening lap, but he simply powered on throughout the rest of the race to win by almost three minutes in the end from Sean O’Tuathaill of Bray Wheelers.

It was O’Tuathaill who got off to the best start today, coming through the start finish area after the first of eight laps with a lead of nine seconds over Evan Ryan (Team WORC), with Seymour and Tim O’Regan (DID Dunboyne) just behind him.

However, Seymour got all of that time back on the second lap, completing that 14 seconds quicker that O’Tuathaill, putting 15 seconds into O’Regan and 45 seconds into Ryan, who took a spill but remounted and continued strongly.

Seymour then simply did his own thing, riding from the front and clocking the quickest time over every remaining lap of the St Anne’s Park circuit in north Dublin.

He was on most laps more than 20 seconds quicker than second placed O’Tuathaill, with O’Regan enjoying a fantastic race and very much staying within touching distance of the Bray man through most of the race.

O’Regan is a talented road rider and a recent stint riding some ‘cross races in Belgium has clearly paid off and delivered for him what was his strongest ride during this winter season.

Seymour crossed the line in a time of 1hr 1min 36seccs, to take the flag some 2:44 ahead of O’Tuathaill, with O’Regan 1:13 further back. Ryan battled well after his spill and in the end was just 24 seconds off a podium place, with newcomer to the Irish scene Glenn Le Queau a further 21 seconds back in fifth.

With the series now complete, the next race in the current Dublin-based cyclocross season is Crossmarnock in Portmarnock in two weeks, followed by the National Championships in January in Dundalk.

With Roger Aiken (Banbridge CC) in the same kind of form as Seymour in the North’s Ulster Cyclocross Series so far this year, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the title race in January and who can push that leading Irish duo closest on the day.
