Seth Dunwoody (Cannibal-Victorious U19 Development Team) has taken his first win in a UCI-ranked junior race in France. Fellow Irish rider Patrick Casey (Anexo Group Race Team) also put in a strong ride to take 6th in the same event.
Both riders are competing in the Penn Ar Bed-Pays d'Iroise (2.1) stage race in France and made the breakaway on the opening day of action, some 101.6km from Plouzané to Ploumoguer.
They were part of the nine-rider breakaway that went to the line on yesterday's stage, with Dunwoody proving best in the sprint to the line and opening a gap of two seconds on the rest of the group. Belgian riders Yaxano Smet (Van Moer Logistics Cycling Team) and Rune Duflo (Onder Ons Parike) were 2nd and 3rd.
Dunwoody took the yellow jersey for his efforts, with the riders facing a split stage today - a morning TT and a road race in the afternoon.
More to come.
