The Irish junior team has gotten off to a flying start at Nation's Cup Hungary (2.Ncup), with Seth Dunwoody finishing the job on the podium after the opening stage, some 136.5km into Vásárosnamény.
The fight for stage victory came down to a mass bunch sprint, won by Spain's Héctor Álvarez, the 17-year-old who has been dominating racing in his home country this year and went into today's stage as favourite for victory.
Álvarez showed a fierce kick at the end of the stage to win it, without the need for a photo finish, while Dunwoody was right behind in 2nd place.
The Irish team in the three-stage race also includes Cal Tutty, David Gaffney, Max Fitzgerald, Joseph Mullen and Conor Murphy.
Tomorrow the riders face a split stage; an 86.km road stage starting and finishing in Ibrány followed by an afternoon TT of 3.5km in Nyíregyháza.
More to come.
