Archie Ryan (EF Education-EasyPost) has suffered a setback on stage 2 at Tour de Luxembourg, with the Irish rider crashing hard in the final of stage 2 today and losing time.
Though he was able to remount - after crashing with Ruben Guerreiro (Movistar Team) who was forced out of the race - he lost time despite chasing hard into the finish in Schifflange at the end of 155km of racing.
However, Ryan told stickybottle he had not suffered serious injury and as he crashed with 4km to go - just outside the safe 3km zone - the 31 seconds he lost will count in the general classification.
It means Ryan, who was 12th on the opening stage yesterday, has now slipped to 49th overall, some 47 seconds down on race leader, and stage 1 winner, Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck).
Today's stage also came down to a bunch sprint, won by Mads Pedersen (Lidl Trek) from Van der Poel and Robin Froidevaux (Tudor Pro Cycling Team).
Despite his crash, and the speed in the final when he came down, Ryan very nearly got on to the back of the peloton before the finish. However, while his general classification hopes taken a dent, he has three more stages to come to make an impact.
