Having been a thorn in the side of the best cyclocross riders in the country in recent seasons but just come up short in his hunt for victory, Sean O Tuathail made the most of his opportunity when it presented itself in Belfast today, Sunday.

The Bray Wheelers rider was best of the field in the A race main event in Lady Dixon Park, shading what was a very hard fought contest that went down to the wire.

As he crossed the line for victory on what was a perfect dry and sunny day for racing, national U23 champion Matt Adair (McConvey XMTB) come home just ahead of junior rider Cameron McIntyre; their game of nip and tuck only ending in a sprint for the line where Adair shaded it.

The trio had battled at the head of affairs for most of the race before O'Tuathail pulled away in the closing stages for the win.

Banbridge CC were unlucky not to have another rider alongside McIntyre close to the top of the leader board, with James Curry right in the mix until a couple of laps to go when he was unlucky to suffer a mechanical.

In the women's race Claire Oakley (McConvey XMTB) took victory from Hannah Ormesher (DID Racing Team) with Lisa Millar rounding out the podium.
