Sean O’Malley claimed a good victory for the men from west of the Shannon today, Monday, when he took the A4 race at Rás Mhaigheo in Westport, Co Mayo.

The Western Lakes CC rider was one of 55 riders to line out for the 78km event. The race followed the same route as the A1/A2/A3 event; taking in one big loop with three categorized climbs before heading back into Westport for the finish. However, for the A4 rides the first 10km was neutralised, making for a race distance of 78km.

O’Malley was to spend some 40km of the race up the road in a two-man escape. However, when that was neutralised he still had the power to take victory in the bunch sprint to the line that settled the race.

The event was run by Covey Wheelers Westport and was accompanied by underage racing, the results of which can be found below.
