Seán Nolan has bounced back from his serious crash during the summer - after riding into a trap on a trail - by winning the Meath road race championships promoted by Bohermeen Cycling Cycling yesterday.
Nolan, a 21-year-old riding for Evo Pro Racing, was left with with broken ribs and fractured vertebrae when he rode into rope stretched across a trail in Townly Hall, Co Meath, in July.
He has since recovered and was back in action yesterday; going on the attack several times in the Meath title race. However, as the course was flat, the jumping around failed to force a breakaway clear. In the final couple of kilometres, Nolan countered a late attack and gained a gap into the headwind.
He held off the group behind to win the county title, with Javan Nulty (Stamullen RC) proving best of the rest for 2nd place and Sean Lenehan (Spin 11-Chain Reaction Racing Team) placing 3rd.
Fiona Guihen (Unattached) claimed the women's title while Ryan Walsh won the junior crown for host club Bohermeen CC. Alan Lyne (Dunboyne CC) was best A2, while Craig Sweetman (Stamullen RC) was first A3 and Pierce Curtin (McNally Swords CC) was best in the A4 category.
