Sean Nolan has taken his first elite cyclocross win in the mud of Co Meath after a commanding performance this afternoon.
The Navan Road Club rider, who has just moved out of the junior ranks, pushed clear of the opposition early in today's third round of the Leinster Cyclocross Series.
Once he got a gap early in the muddy conditions of the Drewstown House course he continued to add to his advantage and ran out a comfortable winner in the end.
Behind him it was Tim O'Regan (Team Worc) who proved best of the rest to take 2nd place while Kevin Keane of St Tiernan's finished strongly to round out the podium.
In the Oldcastle Cycling Club promotion Nolan took on the race early; getting away from the others on the opening lap of eight.
After the first of those laps was completed the racing had
fallen into a pattern that would be maintained; Nolan clear on his own being
chased by O’Regan with others just behind.
By the halfway point Nolan had incrementally put more
daylight between himself and O’Regan, with a gap of about 1½ minutes.
And while O’Regan did his best to hold Nolan in the hopes of
closing in on the youngster as the contest neared an end, it was to no avail.
Indeed, just behind the eventual runner-up Keane was in a
battle with Eoin Ahern, with their fight for 3rd seeing them gain on
O’Regan.
However, in the end Nolan had some two minutes on O’Regan,
with Keane taking 3rd and Ahern in 4th place.
Keane also wrapped up the Masters 50 win, with the Masters 50 category won by John Doris (Epic). David McCarthy (Verge) was best junior.
Separate women's report to follow.
