Sean McKenna has again been victorious on home roads; taking the win at the Boyne GP near Slane in Co Meath today, Sunday.

The latest victory, which he bagged in a sprint from a breakaway, is his fifth of the season despite the new campaign being just one month old.

McKenna was one of five very strong riders to pull clear on the first of eight 12km laps on what was a very undulating circuit.

All five were UCD CC riders last year, though some have since moved to Aquablue CC.

With McKenna were Colm Cassidy and Greg Swinand, who are now both with him at Aquablue.

And that trio were joined by their team mates from last year Ian Richardson and Eoin Morton, both of whom are still riding for UCD.

The five shared the workload up front and rode hard in cold conditions on the testing circuit where they was little rest.

On the last lap the fireworks started, with McKenna and Morton proving strongest and pulling clear of the others.

It looked like they would hurtle into the finish for a two-up sprint to decide the affair until strongman Cassidy got back up to them on his own.

And with around 400 metres to the line, the never say die veteran Swinand also got back on, meaning the sprint for the win was between three Aquablues and one UCD man.

As he had already done on four occasions in the past month, McKenna got the verdict.
