Sam Bennett has taken his second stage victory of La Vuelta; the Irishman owning the charge to the line today to win stage 14 in spectacular fashion.
The Bora-hansgrohe fastman was best in the uphill sprint, marred by a crash, after 188km from San Vicente de la Barquer to Oviedo.
A breakaway that animated the stage was caught in the latter kilometres, paving the way for a drag race up the incline to the finish.
Sam Bennett managed to avoid a large crash just inside the final 1km which took many riders out of contention for the uphill finish.
Tosh van der Sande (Lott-Soudal) attacked up the final climb deep inside the final kilometre.
He pulled out a gap with Maximiliano Richeze (Deceuninck-QuickStep) going after him.
However, Bennett was on his wheel and simply waited for a few moments before making his move and getting past Richeze and Van der Sande with ease to coast to victory.
Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quick Step), who had beaten Bennett to win stage 4, was on his team mate Richeze's wheel when he attacked on the incline in pursuit of Van der Sande.
However, the moment both Van der Sande and Richeze surged forward, everyone else at the front at that point went backwards due to the gradient, with only Bennett able to hunt down the two riders ahead of him.
Sprint on the hoods, he looked in almost disbelief at the distance he put between himself and everyone else; looking back several times to check the damage he had done.
While Richeze was somehow credited as being on the same time as Bennett, Van der Sande was two seconds back.
The next man to finish, Marc Sarreau of Groupama-FDJ in 4th place, was five seconds behind Bennett, such were the gaps that opened in the climbing sprint.
Sam Bennett had already taken victory on stage 3 into Alicante and was 2nd on stage 4 into El Puig.
However, while those two finishes were bunch sprints, today's finale was very different; a much harder approach to the line seeing Bennett showcase his speed and strength very impressively.
