Wearing the race leader's jersey, Sam Bennett sprints in to win stage 2 of the Tour of Turkey this afternoon. He now extends his general classification advantage at the top of the standings.
Sam Bennett wins stage 2 Tour of Turkey
Sam Bennett has taken his second stage in the Presidential Tour of Turkey and extended his lead in the race.
There was plenty of rough and tumble coming into the finish. But Bennett wasn’t afraid to throw the elbow to create space for himself just as the sprint started.
And when the Carrick-on-Suir man hit the front up the finishing straight there was only going to be one outcome.
Edward Theuns (Trek-Segafredo) was 2nd and Ricardo Minali (Astana) rounded out the podium.
The second stage from Kumlica to Fethiye was a long one at 205km.
A two-man breakaway spent the stage out front. It led to a very slow pace as the peloton left them out there until 10km remaining.

But as soon as they were caught the lead-out trains moved into place and the speed whipped up.
There was plenty of bumping in the battle for position. Bennett’s team lost their place as Trek-Segafredo and UAE Team Emirates bossed the action.
But when it counted Bennett wasn’t afraid to use the elbow just before the last turn. And he executed the job with clinical ease.
More to follow.
