Sam Bennett has been denied another stage win at La Vuelta, with Pascal Ackermann beating him by the tiniest of margins.
Bennett's Deceuninck-QuickStep bossed the front of the bunch in the closing kilometres of the final stage into Madrid today before Ackermann's Bora-hansgrohe took over.
In the sprint it was Ackermann who hit the front first, though it looked like Bennett had drawn level with him and beaten the German in the lunge to the line.
However, the photo finish told a different story, with Ackermann just holding on to take the victory from Bennett and Max Kanter (Team Sunweb) in 3rd place.
There was no change in the overall with Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) winning the race by 24 seconds from Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers). Hugh Carthy (EF Pro Cycling) was 3rd at 1:15 and Ireland's Dan Martin (Israel Start-Up Nation) was 4th at 2:43.
More to come.
