Sam Bennett just beaten for another huge win at Scheldeprijs | Video

Sam Bennett had to be content with 2nd at Scheldeprijs in Belgium after making the front group early in the race

Sam Bennett was just beaten for victory today at Scheldeprijs in Belgium, with Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin Fenix) proving too fast for the Irishman in the sprint. Bennett had to be content with 2nd place behind the young Belgian rider.

Bennett and his Deceuninck-QuickStep team dominated the front group of 30 riders that went clear long before the finale of the 193.8km began to unfold today.

There were five Deceuninck-QuickStep riders present in the 30-strong group that had two minutes on the nearest chasers with 30km remaining. Bennett's team mates in that front group today included Mark Cavendish, Michael Mørkøv, Florian Sénéchal and Bert Van Lerberghe.

However, some of the Irishman's biggest sprint rivals also had plenty of assistance, with Pascal Ackermann making the cut alongside four of his team mates.
