Sam Bennett has once again taken maximum points at the intermediate sprint on the Tour de France and has done so today from the breakaway on stage 18.
A large group of over 30 riders went up the road early on today's 175km stage from Méribel to La Roche-sur-Foron.
Bennett (Deceuninck-QuickStep) was in that move alongside his rivals for the green jersey, Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) and Matteo Trentin (CCC Team).
When the group reached the intermediate sprint point at Aime, Sam Bennett was led out by team mate Bob Jungels and took the sprint from Sagan and Trentin.
That gave Bennett 20 points with Sagan taking 17 and Trentin winning 15 points; Bennett now leading the classification by 52 points, with a stage win worth 50 points.
The breakaway group also contained Ireland's Nicolas Roche, the Team Sunweb rider who has been riding so well despite such a heavy fall on stage 10, which was won by Bennett.
With his job done at the intermediate sprint today, Bennett dropped back from the breakaway on the first challenging climb. He faced the race of the day focusing on making the time cut, which he has managed comfortably so far.
