Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team) has made it two wins in two days in France, where the Irishman hit the front very early in the stage 3 bunch sprint at Four Days of Dunkirk to take a confident victory.
Bennett took it up on the front, at the end of 165.1km of racing into Bouchain, after his team had given him a very solid lead-out. And once he took over at the front, in the race leader's pink jersey, there was only ever going to be one outcome.
While the victory salute from the Irishman was more muted than yesterday - when he was taking his first win for 10 months - the fact Bennett has doubled up strongly suggests his form is now much better than in the early months of the season.
Today Bennett claimed victory ahead of stage 1 winner Milan Fretin (Cofidis) and Amaury Capiot (Arkéa-B&B Hotels). And thanks to picking up more time bonuses, Bennett has extended his lead in the general classification to eight seconds over Fretin, with Capiot 3rd at 18 seconds.
On today's stage, former Irish road race champion Rory Townsend (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) was 9th - his second top 10 of the race after 6th on the opening day. Dillon Corkery (St Michel-Mavic-Auber 93) was 20th and Dean Harvey (Trinity Racing) was 113th, both finishing in the bunch and on the same time was winner Bennett.
