The Tour of Guangxi may be a WorldTour event but it has failed to catch the imagination. And Ryan Mullen has said basics, like the food options available to riders, need some work.
Having finished in the bunch on the opening two stages of the Tour of Guangxi (2.UWT) Ryan Mullen has voiced his dissatisfaction with the race.
Mullen said he wouldn't be upset if he never went to race in China again. And he complained the menu choices open to the riders have been very limited so far.
Added to the fact the food options consisted largely of rice and ketchup, Mullen said the riders raced in monsoon conditions today.
The second stage, some 145.2km from Beihai to Qinzhou, came down to a bunch sprint after the early breakaway had been caught.
German champion Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) came through the wet conditions to take victory today.
He saw off Fabio Jakobsen (QuickStep) and stage 1 winner Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo), who retains the race lead.
Mullen (Trek-Segafredo) and Eddie Dunbar (Team Sky) are the only two Irish riders in the race. Both finished in the bunch today and yesterday.
On the opening stage Dunbar's team leader Gianni Moscon put in an attack on a small climb in a bid to get away but was caught.
However, Team Sky is hoping the Italian can take advantage of the climbing on stage 4, with an uphill finish, and stage 5.
And Dunbar will look to be in the mix in aiding Moscon's assault on the race leader's jersey when the terrain gets harder.

Ackermann claimed stage 2 victory in the rain early on Wednesday.
