Ryan Mullen has been left very disappointed at missing
out on TT victory at Baloise Belgium Tour.
The Trek-Segafredo man and Irish champion was just four
seconds shy of taking his first win of the year.
His time saw him place 5th on the stage but he revealed
afterwards that he had lost his chain deep inside the last kilometre.
That mishap with about 400m to the line very likely cost him the stage victory.
However, his 5th place was still a very strong one,
though he said the mishap was hard to swallow.
The 9.2km stage 3 in Grimbergen was won by Tim Wellens of
Lotto-Soudal.
He clocked a time of 10:46, or an average speed of
51.268km per hour.
Nathan van Hooydonck bounced back very well after being
refused a wheel by neutral service yesterday.

He was 2nd today, riding for the Belgian national team,
and missed victory by just one second.
Next, in 3rd place, was Victor Campenaerts; the European
champion riding for Lotto-Soudal was just two seconds off the winner.
Yesterday’s impressive stage winner and race leader Remco
Evenepoel (Deceuninck-QuickStep) was 4th at three seconds followed by Mullen at
four seconds.
Evenepoel leads overall by 57 seconds from Wellens with
two stages remaining. Mullen is 29th overall as he lost time yesterday when he
missed the front group of 28 that finished 42 seconds down on 19-year-old
Evenepoel.
Tomorrow’s stage is 151km featuring nine short sharp
climbs; a big test for Evenepoel but one he is fancied to pass and win the race
overall.
