After taking second place in his first race out of the junior ranks and into the professional bunch last week, Ryan Mullen (IG Sigma Sport) was right in the mix again today against the best of British when he was 5th in the bunch sprint that settled the Eddie Soens Memorial at Aintree race track.

It was a very good result for Mullen, who is not known as a sprinter and was today competing against the top teams on the British pro scene.

The Irish international took the runner-up slot at the Clayton Velo Spring Classic in north west England last Sunday behind Rapha Condor JLT’s Richard Handley, and it was the men in black who again went away with the spoils today.

Their Team GB star track rider Ed Clancy benefitted from a fantastic lead-out to come out best in the gallop to the line. That lead-out train included the Irish duo of Aaron Buggle and Felix English.

World and Olympic gold medallist, Clancy singled English out for special mention, saying he had taken the lead at the front of the train going onto the last lap and had done huge work trough the last lap when the speed and barging was at its most intense.
