Simon Ryan has taken his second win of the season this afternoon at the John Drumm Memorial in Currow, Co Kerry.
The Mego Racing Team man got the better of Robin Kelly (Waterford Racing Team) and the country’s highest-ranked rider, Páidí O’Brien (Osbourne Meats-McCarthy Cycles).
In taking the win, Ryan is €500 better off; a top prize for the winner and one rarely bettered in domestic cycling.
The top trio had been part of the day’s decisive five-man move that also included Sean Lacey (Aquablue) and Eoin Morton (UCD CC).
Morton tried to go lone on the closing lap and pulled out a gap of 20 seconds or so but he was reeled in approaching the finish.
It was a brave move by the Swords man who finished runner-up to O’Brien in the GasNetworks Ireland-VisitNenagh Classic last weekend.
In the A3 race, victory went to Darragh O’Mahony of O’Leary’s Stone Kanturk CC.
Sean Yelverton (Mego Racing Team) was second and Robert O’Leary (Cork Giant) was third.
