Ryan has tasted Worlds success before and is honing her form ahead of Minsk next month
World Track Championships bronze medallist Caroline Ryan and rising young Irish sprint star Eoin Mullen will take to the boards at the UCI World Cup in Mexico in coming days.
While Ryan has already qualified for the World Championships in Minsk next month, Mullen will be trying to get the results this weekend that would book his spot on the plane to his first Worlds.
The Mexico meeting is the last of the UCI World Cups before the Worlds showdown and will be run over three days from this Thursday to Saturday, January 17th to 19th.
Ryan will ride the individual pursuit at the Worlds and this weekend in Mexico will take in that event and the points race. No stranger to success on such a big stage, she won the bronze medal in the points race at the World Championships in Melbourne, Australia last year.
Mullen, who is from the Aran Islands and is now in his second year as an U23 rider, will take in both the keirin and sprint in Mexico in what promise to be high octane events. He is continuing to train at the UCI’s World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland, where he is benefiting from being around some of the best coaches and best young riders in the world.
Though Worlds qualification this year is a big expectation to place on his shoulders, a really good ride in the next few days would get him there. He has already ridden some senior UCI Track World Cup races so is no stranger to the challenge that faces him in coming days in Aguascalientes.
Cycling Ireland CEO, Geoff Liffey said the coming weekend represented a very good opportunity for both riders so close to the World Championships.
