Ruairí Byrne of UCD Cycling Club has been racing in Belgium of late and has used his form from that stint abroad to good effect this evening in Mondello Park, taking victory in the final round of the Mondello Series 2024.

Byrne (20) was collecting his second win of the series, as he also won a round last month, as well as taking the Newbridge GP at the start of the campaign, and a string of other results since then.

This evening, Byrne got the verdict after an aggressive ride in the final few laps as several groups were up the road with the win on the line.

With two A4s still ahead as the finish approached - including one of Byrne's team mates, Ronan Griffin - Byrne jumped from one chasing group to another just off the front of the bunch, before getting clear in a group of about 10.

He then attacked them, getting across to the Griffin and the other rider ahead, before pushing on solo. The chasers swept up the two A4s, with Byrne taking a solo win.

He got the verdict ahead of up and coming junior track and road international, and Junior Tour of Ireland stage winner, Max Fitzgerald (JEGG-DJR Academy), with Javan Nulty (Unattached) placing 3rd.

More to come.
