Johannes Rom Dahl (Roadman Cycling Club) has won the Alo Donegan Cup at Naas Cycling Club's annual 10 mile TT in Crookstown, Co Kildare. The 31-year-old Dane, who has been based in Ireland for the last couple of years, clocked a time of 17:42, making for an average speed of 54.5kmph in the Cross Insurance-sponsored race.
Linda Kelly (Spin the Bean), a World championships-winning tandem pilot with the Irish paracycling team, claimed the women's TT today, the Tom Keenan Cup, in a time of 19:32, for an average speed of 49.5kmph.
Rom Dahl's time today is equal to the senior men's Irish TT record set by Ryan Mullen back in 2014, and equaled by junior Conor Murphy (Caldwell Cycles) two weeks ago at the opening round of the Ernie Magwood TT Series in Ballymena, Co Antrim.
However, even if Rom Dahl was an Irish rider, his time today would not count in the record books as the course for today's TT does not meet the requirements for official records.
It was a straight out route, rather than out and back, and records cannot be set on straight-out courses as a favourable breeze would have a significant impact on the times set. Out and back courses mean any advantage on the way out is cancelled by having to ride into the wind on the return journey.
Rom Dahl claimed victory today by 27.5 seconds from Con Scully, the Dan Morrissey Pissei rider who was in action at Rás Tailteann last week as part of the Irish team.
Jack Lawless of Gorey Cycling Club rounded out the podium today, 37.9 seconds down on the winner; last year's U16 Leinster road race champion riding very well today.
