Primož Roglič (Bora-hansgrohe) went the wrong way at the end of the stage 1 TT at Itzulia Basque Country (2.UWT) but still posted an incredible time over the 10km course Irun. He took the turn off for team vehicles and had to slow and do a U-turn to get back onto the course.
He beat his former team mate, and two-time Tour de France winner, Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) by 18 seconds, a huge margin over 12½ minutes of racing.
Roglič also beat world TT champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) by 14 seconds to make a real statement after an underwhelming performance at Paris-Nice in what was his first race for new team Bora-hansgrohe.
However, Evenepoel also crashed at the start of the TT and lost some seconds, meaning is and Roglič's mishaps cancelled each other out in the head-to-head comparison.
More to come.
