Roger Aiken has taken the fifth round of the Seat Super 7 Criterium Series after spending much of last night’s race in Banbridge out on his own.

The Team Asea man crossed the line with plenty time to spare, though recently-recruited Irish team member Mark Dowling (DID Electrical Dunboyne) put up a brave effort to claim second.

Promising first-year junior Jake Gray of NRPT-Magnet.ie maintained his very good form this month by rounding out the podium for third.

There was a packed agenda of events last night with the first event underway a ‘non-open race’ for competitive club racers.

It was won by local man John Buller of Banbridge CC.

The over 50’s and women raced together with Martin Gilbert (Smart Lamp) and Shenna McKiverigan (Powerhouse Sports) taking the honours in the respective categories.

The main event of the evening kicked off a little after 8.15pm with the A1, A2, A3 and junior riders facing an hour-long crit with primes at minutes 15, 30 and 45.

New national XC MTB national champion Gareth McKee of Banbridge CC claimed the first prime.

But soon afterwards, Aiken took flight and mopped up the remaining two primes before reaching the chequered flag first.

The series continues on Monday, August 3rd, with a criterium in Belfast promoted by Titanic CC while the final round is in Bangor on August 13th and is promoted by North Down CC.
