A total of 16 riders have made it into the finals of the eRacing National Championship, the first time Ireland has ever held virtual cycling title races. The finals are set to be held in south Dublin next month.
The men's final consists of 10 riders, including Chris McGlinchey. The Spectra Wiggle p/b Vitus rider was selected as Ireland's sole representative for the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships earlier this year.
The women's final is smaller, with six riders, one of whom is Imogen Cotter. She is currently the elite national road race champion and competed for the Movistar eRacing team this year. She also moves into the paid ranks on the road next season, with Plantur-Pura.
The finalists for the men's and women's Cycling Ireland title races emerged best in the qualifying event last Saturday over one lap of the Watopia Figure 8 course, for a total distance of 29.8km.
The final takes place on Saturday, January 15th, over the New York, Astoria Line 8 course. The total distance will be 34.5km and 423m of elevation.
It will be an in-person final set-up, meaning all of the finalists will gather in the same venue - University College Dublin in south Dublin - to battle it out for the inaugural national titles in the eRacing discipline.
