Mark Shannon (Burren CC) has won the main event at the University of Limerick Race Day promoted by Greenmount Cycling Academy. Shannon was one of four A1 riders to bridge to the limit group and proved best in the final after 50 minutes and three laps of racing.

In the main event, the A3 group actually gained time on the A1-A2 scratch bunch in the early stages of the race until a quartet attacked from the A1s and began to impose some order on the proceedings.

In that group was eventual winner Shannon, along with Daniel Breslin of host club Greenmount CA, Dermot Radford (Black House Racing) and Jordan Luke (UCD Cycling Club). They made the juncture with three laps to go and although there were some attacks, nothing stuck and the fight for victory came down to a group sprint.

Shannon was best from Declan O’Carroll (All human-VeloRevolution), Breslin, Eoin Clifford (Blarney CC),
Richard Quinn (Club Rothaíochta Na Sionainne) and Dermot Radford (Black House Racing) in that order.

In the A4-M50-M60-Women’s race there was also an attack of four from the scratch group - Shane Donoghue (Athy Wheelers CC), Cesar Lopes (Orwell Wheelers CC), Stephen Lyons (Dolmen CC) and Derek Cullen (Greenmount CA). They caught a small group of female riders given an advantage from the start, with that combined group staying away until the end of the race.

Donoghue won from former national women's criterium champion, Collins, with Lopes 3rd. Lyons was 4th, Cullen 5th and Sienna O’Dwyer (Limerick CC) in 6th. There were eight races down for decision on the day - from U12s to A-A2s - as well as a couple of fun events for those riders 10 years and younger.
