Matteo Cigala has continued his successful return to competition on the domestic road race scene with victory in the Tommy Brady Memorial in Co Meath this evening.
The Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo rider got the better of Ryan
Geraghty (Bikeworx Celbridge) and Shay Donnelly (Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo) in
the bunch sprint to the finish line.
Former professional rider Philip Lavery may have only just returned to racing after a long absence, but the ex-international is already making his presence felt and he was 4th tonight.
Michael Fitzgerald (Unattached) and Daire Feeley (All
Human Velo Revolution) were 5th and 6th respectively; Feeley just coming up
short after going in a late breakaway in a bid to take the victory.
The handicapped event in Robinstown, promoted by Navan
Road Club, saw the A4 riders knuckle down and make the most of their advantage.
However, the groups behind them merged and once an A1-A2-A3 bunch formed, the gap between them and the limit group came down more rapidly.
With four laps to go the race was all together. And while the in-form Feeley got clear in a small breakaway on the final lap, they were just caught before the finish, where Cigala took the honours in a bunch sprint.
