One of the country's top TT riders, Marcus Christie (Banbridge CC) today made the trip to Co Wicklow for the Noel & Kieran Hammond Memorial and came away with the victory to defend his victory of last year in the Orwell Wheelers event.

The 35km race also included a category for road bikes - with no TT kit allowed for those riders - and that proved very popular, helping to boost the overall start list above 60 riders. The best of road bike riders clocked times that would have put them into the prizes in the A3 and A4 TT bike categories.

Christie clocked a time of 42:17, some 1:03 faster than first-year U23 rider Conal Scully (Dan Morrissey-Primór by Pissei), with Tim Walton (All humna-VeloRevolution) in 3rd place at 1:43.

The women's event was won by Yvonne Doran (Pinergy Orwell Wheelers) in a time of 56.47, with Lorraine Harrington (SERC) 2nd in 63.22.

Stuart Carrick (Bray Wheelers) claimed the road bike category win, in a time of 48.21, with Patrick O'Sullivan (Pinergy Orwell Wheelers) 2nd in a time of 50.31 and Dean Wilson (Deenside Wheelers) 3rd in 52.31.

Killian O'Brien (Pinergy Orwell Wheelers) was best junior, in 46.51, from Joe Nathan Matar (Pinergy Orwell Wheelers), on 48.06, with Adam Cullen (Barrow Wheelers) 3rd in 49.40.
