JB Murphy, a medal winner on the track at the junior Worlds and Europeans, has taken his first victory of the season at Mondello Park, Co Kildare.

The winner, on what was a very breezy night for racing,
was intending to race in Spain this year until Covid19 intervened and saw
competition suspended all over the world.

And with the Spanish calendar still very threadbare,
Murphy has decided to stay in Ireland and race, picking up his first win this
evening with an impressive solo attack.

He started the race in Mondello as part of the A1 group, which split about 20 minutes after the start, with Murphy in the first section of the split.

Murphy was first to catch the A3 group up ahead, bridging across to them on his own, before the rest of the A1-A2 main group also made the juncture.

At the end of the penultimate lap Murphy escaped with Marc Potts (Caldwell Cycles) and Cyrus Monk (EvoPro Racing), before going solo and managing to get a gap; riding that last lap on his own to win.

Behind Murphy, Potts and Monk was caught which paved the way for a group sprint for 2nd place, taken by Sean Landers (UCD Cycling Club) from Monk.

Jason Kenny (UCD Cycling Club) was next, in 4th place,
followed by Aaron Wade (Powerhouse Sport) and Richard Maes (Strata
3-VeloRevolution).

While Murphy (Arabay) prevailed in the main event, the A4 race was won by Paul Malone of Clonard Road Club in a two-up sprint from Cian Ibbotson (McNally Swords CC).

Henning Lübberding (Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club) was 3rd with Daniel McGuinness (Clondalkin CC) in 4th, followed by Michael Monahan and Shaun Kelly, both of Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club.
