Ryan Geraghty (Spin 11 Chainreaction) has taken victory in the main event at the opening round of the 2022 Mondello Series this evening in Co Kildare.
The 19-year-old was best in the final sprint to the line from a reduce peloton on a wet evening for racing. He got the verdict, by a few lengths, from Sean Landers (UCD Cycling Club) and Shay Donley (Dan Morrissey-Pactimo).
Masters rider Eugene Murtagh (Lucan Cycling Road Club) took 4th with Paul Norton (All human-VeloRevolution) in 5th and Eoghan Cooke (Spellman-Dublin Port) rounding out the top six.
The scratch group were forced into a prolonged chase as a small group of A3 riders got clear from their group early in the handicapped race. They put in a strong ride, ensuring those in the chasing bunch had to work to close the gap.
However, that early breakaway was eventually recaptured, which paved the way for the bunch sprint taken in some style by Geraghty.
In the A4 race, Cian Bailey (Unattached Leinster) took the honours from Kevin Hanafin (VC Beechwood) and John Walsh (UCD Cycling Club).
