Alan Bingham has won the Masters 40 race at the National Cyclocross Championships in Co Armagh; the Newry Wheelers rider taking his third win in a row in this event.
Today he retained the title in Palace Demesne, Armagh City, ahead of Paul McCarter (Spellman-Dublin Port), with Drew McKinley taking the bronze and making it a 1-3 for the men from Newry.
Bingham won the title two years ago in Enniscrone, Co Sligo, when he saw off the challenge of Olympic Robin Seymour. He also won, from Anthony Doyle, in Cork in 2019. He was 3rd in 2018 in Co Dublin, when Seymour won and was second to Seymour on Co Down in 2017.
In the Masters 50 race today, that title was also retained by the winner of two years ago; Trevor Woods of All human-VeloRevolution.
Former Irish champion Des Woods, another Newry Wheeler, claimed the silver while Jason Henry (Inspired Cycling), the national Masters 50 road race champion, took the bronze medal.
In the Masters 60 race, Johnny McCabe (Cuchulainn CC) took the title from Paul Birchall (Verge Sport PI Cycles) and Deon McNeilly (Shimna Wheelers Cycling Club).
More to come.
