It was one of those days at the Lucan GP; the sunshine of recent weeks giving way to sodden conditions

Paul Kennedy (Burren CC) has extended his great run of form of late with victory in the Lucan GP today. Kennedy retained his Masters 40 national TT title last month and has also been on the podium in TT and road race action in more recent weeks but today took the victory.

He was best from a breakaway at the end of an absolutely sodden day for racing in Dunsany, Co Meath, in the handicapped race for A1, A2, A3 and junior riders.

A 14-man breakaway got clear on the second lap of four today. And with about 35km to go eventual winner and runner-up - Kennedy and Luke Smith (Moynalty CC) - attacked from that breakaway group.

While the two attackers pulled out a gap, the breakaway never gave up and kept them at within 15 to 20 seconds for most of the remainder of the race.

However, Kennedy and Smith had the legs to keep it going, with the Burren CC man getting the better of Smith at the finish for victory.

The chasers were just behind, with Ronan Killeen of the host club managing to get away from that group to take 3rd. The sprint from the remains of the breakaway group, for 4th place, was won by Andy Maguire (Team Stafford Bonded).
