Less than 24 hours after suffering a 30-second time penalty for the crossing the white lane in the opening time trial stage, Jake Gray has gone close to a stage win at the Junior Tour.
The Ireland National Team sprinted home in 2nd place to Colton Brookshire (NCCF Team Specialized) at the end of the 117.8km East Clare stage 2 today.
A stage winner last year and former yellow jersey in the race, Gage Hect of the US Hot Tubes team completed the podium.
A mark of the international talent in the field was that just three of the top 10 in the bunch sprint that decided the stage were Irish.

Gray was the leading Irish rider in 2nd followed by Dillon Corkery of Tarrant Skoda Munster in 6th and Liam Wilson of Cycling Ulster who was 9th.
Tomorrow's stage 3 is 104km taking in Lahinch and Spanish Point on an undulating day in the saddle.
